Finly is designed for young professionals—particularly Gen Z and Millennials in urban centers who want effortless expense tracking, financial goal-setting, and actionable insights. The app integrates with bank and e-wallet APIs and uses AI to automate categorization and deliver personalized advice.
SUrvey Research
We conducted an online survey with 50 young professionals (ages 22–32) in Jakarta to validate pain points and opportunities.
Question 1 :
How do you currently track your daily expenses?
42% → Don’t track consistently.
36% → Use manual notes.
14% → Use mobile apps (manual input).
8% → Rely on memory.
Insight : Majority (78%) either don’t track or rely on manual input, which is effort-heavy and unsustainable. This shows that friction in tracking is the biggest barrier to adoption.
User Interview & Issue Grouping
We conducted interviews with 7 working professionals in Jakarta. Their candid feedback painted a clear picture:
Alya - Marketing Manager
Fidya - College Student
Rafi - Software Engineer
Through user interviews, we uncovered recurring pain points that revealed not just what people struggle with, but why they struggle. These findings became the foundation for design decisions.
Reduce Friction in Tracking
Problem : Users feel exhausted when required to log every transaction manually. This leads to inconsistent usage and eventual abandonment of the app.
Design : Add an image reader feature and apply AI-based categorization to automatically sort expenses. Users only need minimal confirmation, reducing effort while maintaining records.
Add Context Beyond Numbers
Problem : Current solutions mostly present raw numbers without interpretation. Users struggle to understand why their money runs out or how they can improve.
Design : Provide weekly insights and digestible explanations that highlight spending patterns and trends. Contextual tips turn raw data into actionable advice.
Improve Motivation to Save
Problem : Even with awareness, users often fail to stay committed to saving goals. Traditional trackers lack features that motivate long-term consistency.
Design : ntroduce goal-setting features with visual progress bars, milestone celebrations, and gamified reminders. This makes saving feel rewarding and keeps users engaged over time.
